Protecting White Grout from staining with Tile Doctor Ultra-Seal Sealer in Palmerstown Dublin

These tiles at a home in Palmerstown may look like Slate but they are in fact Porcelain which is a very resilient material. Unlike Slate however Porcelain is impermeable and as a result doesn’t usually need much maintenance other than a light periodic clean. Grout on the other hand traps dirt due to its rough cementitious surface and we tend to find its the grout that needs attention with this type of flooring.

This was the case at this property where the grout had not been sealed and dirt from the porcelain tiles had been washed off the tile into the grout line where some of it got stuck and over time this darkened the grout. Unhappy with this the owner asked for me to pop round and give the tile and specifically the grout a deep clean and restore its white colour.

Happy to oblige I rinsed the floor with a dilution of Tile Doctor Grout Clean-up with a focus on the grout lines which were scrubbed well with a small grout brush. With a little TLC it wasn’t long before I could see the grout beneath showing its face. I was on the right track, so I kept going and vacuuming up wet dirty water as I went.

Once fully clean the grout was reviewed and it was clear a few areas were suffering from deep seated staining that could not be shifted. Fortunately, we have a solution for troublesome grout called Grout Colourant which is effectively a hard-wearing epoxy paint that is applied to the grout to revive its appearance. A white colourant was used to spot treat the stained areas, so they blended in with the rest of the grout.

When the grout was fully dry it was the ready to be sealed which would protect it from further staining. For this I used Tile Doctor Ultra-Seal sealer which is an invisable impregnating sealer that soaks into the grout occupying the pores and ensuring dirt remains on the surface where is can be easily cleaned away.

The floor now looks new again and with the grout fully sealed should prove very easy to keep clean. On the subject of cleaning, I recommend avoiding steam cleaners as these can impact the grout sealer and only to use Tile Doctor Neutral Tile Cleaner for maintenance cleaning going forward.
